Biographical Outline
Sensei
Chambers started his martial arts training in
Aikido in the mid 1970’s. In 1980 he began USA Goju Karate training under
Sensei Bob Ostovich who was a student of Master Joe Hess, 100
Blackbelt and founder of the Joe Hess Self-defense System. Until 1989, Sensei
Chambers was actively involved in teaching karate, kobudo and kickboxing under
Sensei Ostovich. In 1989, Sensei Chambers began teaching karate and kobudo with
Sensei Tom Smyth at the Palm Bay, Florida dojo. Sensei Smyth was a student of
Sensei Ken Batts under Master William Liquori’s USA GOJU Karate system in
Orlando, Fl. Between 1989 and 1999, Sensei Smyth and Sensei Chambers taught
side by side and shared the complimentary aspects of their two lineages of USA
Goju Karate. In 2000 Sensei Chambers relocated to the Tampa Bay area where he
started teaching private karate classes in his backyard, “The Sunshine Dojo”.
In 2005 Sensei Smyth and Sensei Chambers formalized their system of USA Goju by
forming the USA Goju Karatedo Association. By 2006 he had established three
commercial dojo locations in Riverview and Gibsonton, Florida. In addition to
his American Goju training, Sensei Chambers has trained privately with Shihan
Shunji Sudo who is a student of Mario Higaonna of the International Okinawan
Goju Karate Federation (IOGKF).
Sensei Chambers teaches part
time, Mon through Thursday, and Saturday at the various dojo’s.
He has joined the Fight Schools Network to support Grand Master Peter Urban’s
legacy by being better connected with the USA Goju family,
and is sponsored by Keith Teller, Hanshi GH# 047
in Gainesville, Florida.
