No April 2013 Goju Meet at the
John Jay College of Criminal Justice
(Notice posting from Shihan Al
Gotay 10th Dan)
Regretfully, there will not be an April 2013 Goju meet at the John Jay
College of Criminal Justice in New York City.
Personal family issues have forced me to cut back on some of my activities and
the meet is one of them.
It was an
honor for me to run this event in April every year from 1990 until the passing
of our founding father Supreme Grand Patriarch O’Sensei Peter Urban in 2004.
Those fifteen years of April meets provided times for all American Goju
instructors and students to meet brothers and sisters within the system.
Since 2004 the April meet was conducted intermittently by me and others with the
last of the series being conducted in April of 2012.
Sensei
Urban informed me that he eagerly looked forward to this event every year
because he considered it a great opportunity for all to get together.
It was obvious that he welcomed the conversations that he had with attendees and
he was always ready to share his thoughts and give advice.
I will always remember observing his enthusiastic conversations with all
that approached him as he supervised the overall event with his daughter Julia
Urban
close by as well as Sensei Sha ready to attend to his every need.
In the
busiest days of the meet there were as many as 500 competitors and a
commensurate amount of spectators and support personnel.
It is impossible for me to list the many names of those who supported this
annual event. However, I cannot post this message without mentioning and
thanking
those of my inner circle such as Rich Fiore, Ben Kwiatowski, Sara Furlong, and
Maribel Reyes-Gotay without whom it would have been impossible to run the
event.
To them and to those who attended year after year I am eternally grateful. Many
within the system even travelled to Iona College in New Rochelle, New York
during times that we were not able to use the John Jay College of Criminal
Justice facilities in New York City.
I will
continue to teach and train at the John Jay College and in turn send my students
to local contests conducted by the many great senseis that have evolved
since the founding of the system by O’Sensei Peter Urban.
Again,
regretfully there will not be an April meet this year of 2013 at the John Jay
College. To all of my brothers and sisters within the system,
please accept my thanks for your support at the events these past years from
1990 to 2012.
Keep
punching.

Shortly after Maestro Urban's passing, the
U.S.A.G.A.®
logo was registered to protect it
for all USA Goju practitioners. This logo is now available to us for our use
in our dojo affairs.
Since
U.S.A.G.A.®
is now a registered trade mark, there are a few restrictions placed on
its use.
These restrictions are for the protection of the trade mark and should not be
looked at as a restriction placed on the USA Goju practitioner.
Anyone using the logo must have the
®
at the end of
U.S.A.G.A.®
, and any merchandising must be approved by Hanshi Hermann to ensure
the legal guide lines have been followed. The
U.S.A.G.A.®
back patches can be attained through Shihan Orlando Rodriguez by the heads of
the USA Goju Dojo.
This is not a profit seeking venture, it is in keeping with the legal guide
lines of the trade mark.
Each Dojo can then sell the back patches to their students at whatever rate they
choose. T shirts, Hats, Coffee mugs, etc. can be made with prior approval.
We, as O’Sensei Urban’s children, are tasked with protecting this logo treasure
that he left us,
and ensuring that this logo is not degraded, misused, or offended in anyway
shape or form.

Regrettably, there are a lot of young Senseis out there
without Masters to seriously correct and provide
professional guidance on how to stay on the middle path,
a path that not many will attain because of their own
selfish, egotistical, limited, arrogant perspective. The
Urban World Martial Arts Federation will provide Sifus
and Senseis with Dojos; recognition, accreditation,
rank, guidance, tutelage, course outline, access to
Urban Goju Do schools, Okinawan Goju Ryu, and other
Martial Arts Societies affiliated around the world...
The Urban World Goju Incorporated, (dba,
Urban World Martial Arts Federation) has memberships and
Dojos around the world. This Federation consists of
Prime Ministers named on Peter G. Urban’s living will
(testament) and others as significant in rank and
loyalty to his wishes. We are moving his agenda forward
in harmony, only with bona fide (teaching) Senseis, with
Dojos and students. We have real organizations that will
strengthen our Federation, as well as affiliated
Federations of Martial Arts around the world...
The focal point of this Federation is to empower the
student with integrity, ethics, professional leadership
which we provide through seminars, a hand on approach
for your own self development and awareness unlike any
other Martial Arts Association/Federation that is simply
looking for dues. Our aim is to strengthen our
brotherhood, friendship, love, respect, dignity amongst
men that follow a strict code of conduct. It’s a council
of government where the Board members are co-equals with
no one in charge, other than Nemo was left in charge by
Sensei...

The Goju world has lost another one of it's bright lights.
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of another outstanding
Urban Student. Sensei Mike Pralgo passed away this morning after a long illness.
He died peacefully in his sleep. Mr. Pralgo was a student back in China Town
along with his brother Mel Pralgo.
This was in the day's of Daley, Lopez, Merriman, and Gotay to name a few.
I had been a student of Mr. Pralgo's back in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was blessed to
have been.
He was not only an outstanding instructor by an incredible person, who I was
glad to call my friend.
The funeral was in Benson Arizona, where he had been living for a number of
years.
After his health failed, he and his wife closed his school in Brooklyn and
moved closer to his son and Daughter.
Please remember him in your prayers.
Oss!

It is with much sadness that we inform you of the untimely
death of Tiiananmen Brown, the son of Urban Loyalist,
Grand Master Sekwii Sha.
There is always extreme sadness when parents survive their children, but GOD's
plan is grander and broader than ours on earth.
Our Deepest Sympathy goes out to the family of Hanshi Sha during this time of
mourning.
May God bless them and hold them in the palms of his hands during this time of
grief.
